# Day 95 (That Kind of Day!)

Some days the daily-creative-routine you have set for yourself turns out to be much like the ‘stately pleasure dome’ in Coleridge’s famous poem “Kubla Khan”…a fragment interrupted! Half a dozen ideas fire up your imagination, snippets of sentences form squiggly lines in your writer’s diary, yet when you sit down to write and give proper form and words to your concepts, they seem to dissolve and disperse into thin air. In the preface to his poem Coleridge talks of ‘a person on business from Porlock’ who broke the continuity of his wondrous vision. In real life any number of “Porlocks” come knocking with the malicious intent of interfering with the flow of your thoughts. It could be a courier service with the cheque book you ordered, someone delivering a parcel of your latest online-shopping-spree, your neighbour dropping in to leave the house keys for her husband who will drop in later to collect them or even one of the colony gate guards who wants a bottle of cold drinking water. This specially happens when there is no one else at home to answer the doorbell or the phone. The latter you could still put in ‘silent-mode’ but something holds you back from doing so…heaven forbid, what if one of the kids or your husband chooses to call then?! As for the doorbell, that is beyond your area of influence and control. And so you struggle with the unbuilt monument of your imagination and like Coleridge rue the fact that
“The shadow of the dome of pleasure
Floated midway on the waves;”
Under such circumstances good sense lies in recognising the signals the universe is sending you…leave the creative pursuits for another day, switch on the TV and watch your favourite show or just curl up with a good book and a cup of coffee. Tomorrow when inspiration comes calling again, i know
“With music loud and long,
I would build that dome in the air,
That sunny dome! those caves of ice!”
