# Day 345 (Remembering our poet laureate…)

He is the Bengali polymath who “reshaped Bengali literature and music, as well as Indian art with contextual modernism”~ India’s grand old man of letters, Rabindranath Tagore (see my blog post # Day 152). Today is his 155th birth anniversary. According to the Gregorian calendar he was born on 7th May 1861 in Kolkatta. (There they observe it as per the date in the local Bengali calendar, which this year falls on 8th May; Tagore Jayanti being popularly known as Poncheeshe Boishakh)

For today a small lyrical verse from one of his poems~

The love in my body and heart
For the earth’s shadow and light
Has stayed over years.
With its cares and its hope it has thrown
A language of its own into blue skies
It lives in my joys and glooms
In the spring nights birds and blooms
Like a rakhi-band
On the future’s hand…
